Here’s a few things the judges will be looking for when they whittle down the longlist and you should keep in mind when nominating a blog.
- Offering something unique and someone who knows their subject
- Able to write in an engaging and entertaining style
- Links out to other blog posts and websites
- Includes good strong photos, and attributes where they come from
- Good use of social media with their blog e.g. Twitter feed, Facebook page
- Post frequency matches the style of blog e.g. some may be quick-fire, photo and paragraph while others may be long-form blog posts
- Active in the comments, replying back to readers and getting into debates
- Good spelling, punctuation and grammar
- Looks good, thought has gone into the way the blog looks to make it easy for people to read and accessible to all
- Clear about and contact page
This quote from one of our readers, Ben, sums up a good blog:
“It’s simple in my mind, a good blog is something that pulls you back time and time again. It’s the content that really makes a blog, if it’s good then people will buy into it, if it’s not then people will lose interest no matter how flashy the page looks!”
